"I think that Art is a type of research or science. Some people spend their whole lives looking for asteroids that could kill us, so if we are going to die in a fiery mess, we will know about it. Art belongs to the army of people who investigate what it is to be human (along with poets, musicians, philosophers, and things like that) so if we are going to exist, we had better know why. Art tells us about the colors we should know about, the materials that can become fantastic, scales and interruptions that most people don't know exist. I figured it our just now when I made this mess out of paint and water and said to myself "people need to know about this color. i think it might be life-affirming". And that is why people get mad at art they can't understand, it is like writing a lab report in Finnish, some people can understand it, but a majority of the world does not."
